This weekend we took the old Land Commander out to Florence, Oregon and stayed at the Port of Siuslaw campground, for the “Goin’ With The Flo Vintage Trailer Rally.” We went last year with our little Venture, and we were excited to be there this year with the bigger (and older and cooler) Aristocrat. The event was half the size of last year (thanks, covid) and the weather wasn’t as cooperative as it might have been, but it was still a good time.
Home sweet home-away-from-home
Our neighbor’s rig. Didn’t catch the make, but they said it was a ‘59.
As we were setting up, some cars from a local classic car club rumbled through the campground. An odd mix of vehicles, but all cool in their own way.
Vega wagon with a small-block and a 4 speed, and great-sounding side pipes
‘67 Chevelle SS396
‘58 Ford Fairlane... but someone stole its door handles!
‘69 Dodge Super Bee, 383 automatic
The other trailers in residence were pretty cool as well, with a couple of Silver Streaks and Airstreams representing the streamliners...
We got along well with these guys because they have elderly dogs as well
But the star of the show was this trailer/tow rig combo: a ‘56 Chevy 3100 pickup, pulling a little “canned ham” trailer (again, didn’t catch the make) from 1958.
Niiiiiice.
Damn that’s pretty.
The only other Aristocrat trailer this year was this “Lil Loafer.” Same shape as ours, but 2/3 scale... this sucker is only 12 feet long.
Aww, it’s so cute!
And a little DOTS action from our walk downtown...
I think that scowly guy sitting behind it is the owner
Fun trip, when it wasn’t pouring down rain, or we weren’t rushing to take down our awning before the wind blew it away. We’re looking forward to more adventures in “LuCille,” as we’ve named the trailer (capital L, capital C... Land Commander... get it?), and hopefully this event will be bigger and better next year.
Oh, and for the curious: the QX4 pulled beautifully, but only managed about 11 mpg. Probably because a lot of this trip was interstate driving, and it was pulling a giant brick through the air at 65 mph.
That old Chevy truck has us considering a period-correct tow vehicle, though. An old mid-’60s wagon would be cool, or maybe a Suburban... ooh, or an International Travelall. Don’t know where we’d put it, or how we’d pay for it, but it’s fun to daydream about.

Very cool! Your LC is awesome - I’d be curious to see the interior.
Pretty neat drive-bys, too. The ‘58 Ford looks shorter than normal to me - maybe a trick of the camera angle and the fact that it’s a 2 door post car, I guess?

Wouldn’t the Vega be a “shooting brake”? I think a wagon is supposed to have four doors.
